Visit #2

It was a chilly, but sunny day in beautiful downtown Des Moines.  The perfect morning to grab a coffee and head into the heart of our city.  It has been a few weeks since we last checked in and there are lots of updates to report.

The seven townhomes are moving along, with each individual home starting to show designations and small structural designs that make each unit unique. This is not going to be a ‘cookie cutter’, one floor plan fits all, type of community. We noticed arched doorways, bumped out windows, fireplaces and more, that set each unit apart from their neighbor. Five of the homes face Grand Avenue while two point toward 40th Street.

Since our last visit, you will notice that the framing stage is completed.  The townhomes are framed, wrapped and currently being wired for both electrical and plumbing.  Pella windows and doors are being installed, including oversized front windows and expansive 4 paneled patio entry doors. Crews have started to apply siding and all of the open air patios have been covered with a waterproof coating to protect them from the elements.

At this stage we can see the elevator shafts in each unit.  Unlike a commercial elevator, a residential elevator is built on-site and can be added after construction once the home has begun.  Homeowners will be able to choose design features for their elevators including paint color, hardwood or tile flooring, etc.
